Tron (TRX) Foundation has announced that prize of a house will go to a lucky holder or trader of the token. This comes as the foundations plans for a Main Net launch later this month.
“Last year it was a Maserati and a Mercedes-Benz. This year we?re taking our giveaway to a whole new level ? your dream home! Stay tuned,” wrote Tron Foundation’s Justin Sun on Twitter.
During the festive season last year Tron Foundation partnered with cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, to reward traders who were trading TRX on the exchange. The first prize was a Maserati Levante Classic while the second price was a Mercedes Benz Smart Fortwo. Other prizes include an Apple MacBook Pro and an iPhone X. To qualify for these prizes traders were required to have traded the largest amount of TRX in a given period.
While the marketing tactic has been welcomed by some who argue that it will increase the awareness levels of virtual currencies across the globe it has also been met with criticism. Some critics have argued that the teams behind virtual currencies should focus on improving their innovations rather than spending funds on flashy giveaways. There are also those who claim that with the prizes going to those with the largest trading volumes, it is economically discriminative.
This comes in the wake of Tron announcing that it is abandoning the blockchain network of Ethereum (ETH) at the end of this month thereby ending its reliance on ERC-20 and becoming entirely independent. Tron?s digital tokens will be migrated late next month after the Main Net has undergone thorough testing.
A little over a week ago Tron Foundation successfully completed an airdrop of 30 million tokens. The TRX tokens were sent to holders of Ethereum who already had in their wallets at least one ETH when the airdrop was taking place. Tron Foundation revealed that 602,881 addresses received the tokens with every eligible address getting about 49.76 TRX. At the current market prices this is equivalent to a little under $4. The total value of the tokens that were distributed amounted to less than $2 million.
